Andy Lewis - Owner/Instructor

Andy was introduced to challenging outdoor activities at an early age by his father, hillwalking and mountaineering across England and Wales regularly from the age of 10.

During his teens, after receiving a copy of Lofty Wiseman’s SAS Survival Manual, Andy took every opportunity to get out into the woods and hills to learn and develop the practical skills of Survival.  Andy has practiced these skills widely across the UK, and as far afield as trekking through the Nepalese Himalayas.

Andy is a passionate educator. He was a secondary school outdoor education teacher for over a decade, whose responsibilities included; leading over six expeditions per year as the Duke of Edinburgh Award coordinator, instructing Bushcraft and Survival skills to pupils with SEN and challenging behaviour, introducing comprehensive outdoor education programs into physical education curriculums (orienteering, NICAS, NNAS, etc.), and leading a specialized alternative provision program for teenagers who struggled within mainstream education. Andy is also a passionate self-defense and personal safety trainer, being a lifelong practitioner of martial arts and combat sports. Andy holds instructor level qualifications & black belts in several disciplines, and has trained with law enforcement & military professionals who specialize in close combat and self-defense.

Andy left mainstream education in 2016 to work full-time in the Survival industry, as an instructor and trainer. He is a qualified Bushcraft instructor, holds the NCFE Level 4 Survival Instructors Award, is a qualified Mountain Leader with the MTA, and regularly delivers IOL accredited outdoor leadership training courses. Andy is on the register of instructors with the British Combat Association and is a qualified self-defense instructor, physical restraint trainer and conflict management trainer with NFPS (The National Federation of Personal Safety).

"I would highly recommend any course run by Andy Lewis, his passion for Bushcraft & Survival is infectious!

I was lucky enough to be on the first WSL course he ran. The course was incredibly well run, and Andy has the ability to tailor his instruction to each individual within the group! Making sure no one is left behind, everyone is challenged, but nobody is over stretched!"
